Buggy tour from Almancil: the route, the €125 and the licence and deposit rules

Updated October 14, 2026 · 7 min read

An off-road vehicle on a gravel track in the Algarve hinterland

An off-road tour leaves from Almancil: a buggy at €125 per group of up to two.

It describes the route as “passages through almond groves, carob trees, riverside of Algibre and through Cerro de Cabeço de Câmara” and is offered at 90 or 180 minutes. The buggy adventure carries 4.8 stars from 1,126 reviews and is listed at €125 for a group of up to two, with a duration of 1.5 to 3 hours.

What the €125 actually covers

The buggy listing spans 1.5 to 3 hours, and the €125 is the entry price for the short version. Comparing the price with another tour therefore means comparing like with like: 90 minutes against 90 minutes, or 180 against 180. Choose the length first, then check the price for it on the booking page.

The price is quoted per group of up to two people, not per person. For two adults, the entry price is €62.50 each. For one person travelling alone, it is €125 — which is why solo travellers should look hard at the per-head economics before booking, the same arithmetic we ran for the private catamaran.

Licence, deposit and the 120-centimetre line

The buggy listing publishes its conditions in unusual detail, and they are more demanding than anything else you can book for an afternoon on land here.

You must bring a passport or ID card and a driving licence, and the page repeats it: all drivers must bring their driver’s licence. There is a €100 deposit, payable by credit card or in cash. Included in the price are the vehicle, a tour guide, the safety briefing, a helmet, protective goggles, food and drink, tips, and pick-up and drop-off if you select that option. The activity is listed as not suitable for pregnant women, for people with mobility impairments, and for anyone under 120 centimetres tall. You are advised to bring comfortable shoes and a change of clothes.

The deposit is worth planning for. €100 in cash or a credit card with headroom is not the sort of thing you discover you need at a meeting point in the countryside. The jet ski rental at the marina works the same way and catches people out for the same reason.

Where you actually meet

The buggy listing states that the meeting point may vary depending on the option you select, and that you should check availability for details. Pick-up and drop-off is an option, not a default — if you do not select it, you are getting yourself there.

That matters from Vilamoura. Almancil is a short drive inland, but “a short drive” means a car or a taxi in each direction, and the three-hour version is a half-day once you count both journeys and the briefing. If you are travelling without a car, decide the transport before the tour, not after.

Who should not book it

Anyone hoping for a coastal view should not book this. The route runs inland through almond and carob country and over Cerro de Cabeço de Câmara. It is a good landscape and it is not the sea. If the point of the afternoon is the Algarve everyone pictures, a boat trip along the Benagil coast delivers that and this does not.

Anyone who dislikes dust should not book it either. Rocky paths, dirt and gravel are the product, which is why the operator tells you to bring a change of clothes.

And anyone travelling with small children should read the 120-centimetre exclusion on the buggy page and take it seriously rather than hoping. For families, the go-karting at Almancil sits on the same road with published age bands from three years upwards, and our overview of what suits which traveller and the price comparison set the off-road tour against everything else the region sells. The rest of the land programme is listed under things to do around Vilamoura.
